Dear Moms and Dads,
Children often feel a letdown following the holidays, and even though we’re a bit relieved, we feel it, too. So spend some extra time snuggling together and sharing these simple activities.
Cooking Time
Snowball Drops
Here’s some snow your parents won’t mind if you eat since it’s a delicious sweet treat with a hidden surprise.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
1 12-ounce bag white chocolate chips
1 ½ cups walnuts or peanuts, chopped
½ cup dates, chopped
16 cherries, cut in half
Wax paper
Cookie sheet
Directions:
- Cover a cookie sheet with wax paper.
- With your parent’s help, melt chips in microwave for one minute. Continue in 20-second intervals until melted. Stir until smooth.
- Stir nuts, dates and cherries into melted chips.
- Drop by teaspoons onto cookie sheet to form snowballs.
- Place half cherry in center of each ball.
- Allow to set in refrigerator.
Craft Time
Indoor Snowflakes
Just in case there’s no snow outside, bring some indoors. This kind won’t melt!
What You’ll Need:
White paper doilies
Clear contact paper (or laminator)
Scissors
White glitter
Thread (white or silver)
Paper hole punch
What to Do:
1. Cut small sections from a doily until it resembles a snowflake.
2. Place snowflakes on sticky side of a sheet of clear contact paper or laminate. Leave a space between each snowflake.
3. Carefully sprinkle with glitter, being sure to keep the contact paper free of sprinkles.
4. Sandwich another sheet of contact paper, sticky side down, on sheet of glitter snowflakes. Lay carefully to reduce wrinkling.
5. Punch a hole in the top of each snowflake.
6. Hang by varying lengths of string. Use as ornaments, in a doorway or on a window.
