“If there were ever a parenting magazine
with a strong sense of place,
Long Island Parent is it.”

Parenting Publications of America

Long Island Parent magazine was named Rookie of the Year by Parenting Publications of America. That means we were rated the best new large circulation parenting magazine in the nation.

Here’s what the judges had to say: “If there were ever a parenting magazine with a strong sense of place, Long Island Parent is it. A particularly useful feature of each issue is the focus on providing at least one story covering multiple questions or issues for each child age group [Growing Years]. Excellent focus on the people and culture of Long Island. Love the focus on an individual family for each cover.”

Our Team
Liza N. Burby
Publisher/Editor
First and foremost I’m mom to my two daughters, Danielle and Laura. But I’m also a noted journalist and parenting and children’s book author who has been writing in large part about and for Long Island parents for 20 years. I started Long Island Parent and this Web site three years ago to continue the reader and community relationships I developed as editor of Newsday’s Parents & Children magazine for nearly 10 years. It is because of my enthusiasm about parenting and my readers that I wanted to start this business. I also happen to like Long Island, a place my husband and I have called home for 25 years. I’m active in the community. Currently I sit on the advisory committee for the Early Years Institute, am a board member of the Child Care Council of Suffolk, and am a member of the Parenting Institute at Adelphi and the Speaker’s Bureau for the Early Years Matter Campaign—all Long-Island based organizations. I’m also a senior adjunct professor at Adelphi University in Garden City.  Visit www.lizaburby.com to learn about my books and other writing.
